We understand there is a lot of uncertainty around travel in the current situation with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and we just wanted to update you on what we know so far.
The Foreign & Commonwealth Office is still advising the UK against all but essential international travel but this is being constantly monitored and updated. From Monday 8th June, new laws for re-entering the UK came into force. You must complete a form to provide your journey and contact details and once back, you will not be allowed to leave your place of residence for 14 days to self-isolate. By not following these rules, you risk fines of up to £1000.
Virgin Atlantic have announced their plans to return to business as some countries around the world start to relax their travel restrictions, they plan to steadily increase passenger flights through the end of 2020 and into 2021 alongside additional measures for customer safety.
British Airways, and many other airlines, are now offering a ‘book with confidence commitment’ meaning if you book a flight, you will be entitled to change or cancel your booking in exchange for vouchers without incurring additional fees.
London City Airport originally closed in March but planned to re-open in April, that has now been pushed back to the end of June for domestic services and early July for international flights.
Heathrow Airport are always now requiring all passengers above the age of 6 to wear face coverings within the terminal buildings after seeing a 97% reduction in passenger numbers since last year. They have also started temperature screening trials in Terminals 2 and 5 which is where all flights are now leaving from, the findings from these trials will be shared with the UK Government with the hopes of aiding the development of a Common International Standard for health screenings.
However, other countries are starting to relax their restrictions meaning some attractions will be open with strict social distancing rules. The Leaning Tower of Pisa in Northern Italy has now re-opened after being closed for 3 months, but only 15 people will be allowed in at once and they will have to wear masks.
